Singles II
Originally released/recorded on MP3.com sometime around 1999 to 2002. I think this is about when I started to come into my sound and style. There’s even a hint of when I started to experiment with lighter tones you’d hear from my Stephen James Knight side project. Still far, far from perfect – yet somehow a handful of these wound up #1 in MP3.com’s respected charts (no accounting for taste I suppose). These tracks haven’t seen the light of day since MP3.com went down, and the only way you’d have a copy is if you got one from me at a live show back then.
Back during the early days of MP3.com, I released half a dozen CDs worth of material. It was a different time, and a very, very different mind-space. I don’t think this is my finest work, but some people have a connection to that time and sound, and occasionally people request these old tunes from time to time, so I thought I’d put them up on Bandcamp for anyone that wants them. Singles II was mostly recorded around 1999 to 2002.
To quote Cevin Key on the Skinny Puppy ‘Back and Forth’ album (because he said basically what I’d like to say): “…quality at times may be questionable. Songs at times may annoy you. The equipment was primitive… …this CD is dedicated to our fans who have been persistent enough…”. I can only wish my back catalog material was even half as good as the old SP back catalog.
I had no decent equipment, just some old sequencers and samplers and drum machines and whatever junk I could get my hands on. Good times. Enjoy!
